What is the 1776 Report and Why is it Important?

“All the good things we see around us- from the physical infrastructure, to our high standards of living, to our exceptional freedoms- are direct results of America’s unity, stability, and justice, all of which in turn rest on the bedrock of our founding principles...
The choice before us now is clear. Will we choose the truths of the Declaration? Or will we fall prey to the false theories that have led too many nations to tyranny? It is our mission... to restore our national unity by rekindling a brave and honest love for our country and by raising new generations of citizens who not only know the self-evident truths of our founding, but act worthy of them.” -1776 Report, pg. 16

What is it?

The 1776 Commission was a group of highly respected scholars and historians, put together by the Trump administration in September of 2020, to create a truthful, pro-American history curriculum to combat ideas that are now overtaking our schools system, such as Critical Race Theory and the 1619 Project. Unfortunately, the 1776 Commission was decommissioned the very first day that Biden took office.

Just days before that, on January 18, 2021, the commission put out a document titled The 1776 Report.

Why is it important?

This document is full of amazing truths, drawing from first hand accounts, of America’s founding and of our founding documents. It also addresses the concerns that come with teaching Critical Race Theory and identity politics.

The 1776 Report has been criticized and ripped apart by mainstream media calling it twisted and false.

One popular argument today is that the Founding Fathers were hypocrites for declaring that all men are created equal, while they themselves had slaves. But as Frederick Douglass said, the Declaration of Independence was “the ring-bolt to the chain of your nation’s destiny”, and the Constitution, a “glorious liberty document.” The formation of the Constitution paved the way to the abolition of slavery and the Civil Rights Movement.

I firmly believe that the 1776 Report needs to be read by every truth seeking adult, and then do your own research about it. You will quickly see that this is anything but false and twisted.

Now more than ever we need to be pushing for these contents to be taught in our schools. We need to be teaching this to our children and instilling in them a reverent love for this country and our history. All civilizations throughout all of history will have their follies, but those should never discredit the miraculous victories that this nation has seen.

Please take time to read the 1776 Report.
